Irish Car Bomb!

Irish Car Bomb is a delicious beer shot, or bomb shot, that has become a bar favorite worldwide. In a traditional Irish Car Bomb, there are only three ingredients:

1. Irish stout
2. Irish cream
3. Irish whiskey

Mixing the ingredients is super simple. You’ll need a shot glass and a pint glass. You pour your favorite Irish stout into a pint glass and fill it halfway. Guinness is my stout of choice, but feel free to mix it up! There are a number of great Irish style stouts made all over the world.

Next, fill the shot glass halfway with your favorite Irish cream. Irish cream is a cream liqueur made from dairy cream and Irish whiskey. The more popular Irish creams tend to have other ingredients mixed in such as coffee. I prefer Bailey’s Irish Cream, but again feel free to mix it up.

The last ingredient to add is the Irish whiskey. Float it on top of the Irish cream inside your shot glass until you’ve filled the shot glass. A traditional Irish whiskey to use within an Irish Car Bomb is Jameson’s Irish Whiskey, although just about any Irish whiskey will do. I tend to prefer Bushmill’s to Jameson’s.

Now, all that’s left is the mixing process. This is the fun part. When you’re ready to enjoy your Irish Car Bomb, just drop the shot glass gently into the pint glass of stout and drink it right away. It’s called a beer shot, because it’s customary to chug it. The whiskey and cream mixture tends to curdle if you wait, so be sure to drink it quickly. And don’t premix for a party. Part of the fun of doing an Irish Car Bomb is watching it drop into the glass and shooting it right away! Blow it up!

There are many combinations of this beer shot, from the Belfast Car Bomb to the Dixie Car Bomb. All of them are a slight variation of the Irish Car Bomb, typically in the choice of beer and regional whiskeys.
